Tamborine National Park - Joalah Section

The Joalah section of Tamborine National Park protects a pocket of subtropical rainforest on Tamborine Mountain's plateau, where towering cabbage tree palms rise through dense vegetation. This small but rewarding reserve centres on the Palm Grove Circuit, a short walking track that loops through classic wet sclerophyll and rainforest country. The section takes its name from an Aboriginal word meaning "valley of the scrub turkey," and visitors often spot these distinctive birds scratching through leaf litter along the track.

The Palm Grove Circuit winds beneath the canopy where piccabeen palms create natural archways and strangler figs twist around ancient host trees. The track is relatively easy going, though some sections can be slippery after rain, and the lush understory creates that characteristic rainforest quiet broken only by whipbirds and catbirds.
